Allendale, NJ Detox and Rehab Centers

Located in Bergen County, Allendale is a small town in the northern part of New Jersey. Like in many other parts of the country, fentanyl (a synthetic opioid several times more powerful than heroin) is to blame for most drug overdose deaths in the state.

In 2012, fentanyl was found in only 42 of the state’s 1,223 drug overdose deaths.¹ Just 7 years later, fentanyl was the cause of death in 2,248 people—that’s 75% of the drug deaths in the state.² In Bergen County, nearly 80% of drug overdose deaths in 2019 were from fentanyl.²

Law enforcement is working hard to keep fentanyl off the streets of Allendale and Bergen County. In 2020, local police discovered a fake pill mill in the county, which led to the arrest of 8 people and the seizure of over $1 million worth of drugs and illegal items.³ The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said police discovered fentanyl and a pill press they believe was being used to make fake oxycodone and Percocet pills.³

In Allendale and Bergen County, suspected opioid overdose deaths have risen. In 2013, there were just 91.⁴ By 2021, that number had risen to 220.⁴ Naloxone, a medication used to reverse an opioid overdose, was administered 680 times in 2021, up slightly from 2020 but down from a high of 768 in 2019.⁴

Support groups are also an integral part of addiction therapy, whether part of a patient’s regular treatment plan or encouraged as part of their aftercare. These groups provide a supportive environment where people with similar experiences, such as substance use disorder, can share advice and offer encouragement.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are 2 well-known support groups. There are 2 AA meetings held in Allendale.⁷ Other meetings are held less than 2 miles away in nearby Wyckoff.⁷ Those meetings are located at:

• Archer Methodist Church, 37 E. Allendale Avenue, Allendale, Tuesdays at 8 p.m.⁷
• Abundant Life Reformed Church, 475 Lafayette Ave., Wyckoff, Thursdays at 7:15 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m.⁷

The closest NA meetings open to the public are held at Ridgewood Reformed Church at 271 Lincoln Ave. in Ridgewood.⁸ Meetings are available Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 p.m.⁸

Research shows that being part of a support group as part of addiction treatment can potentially reduce substance use, improve engagement, reduce risky behaviors, and improve outcomes.⁹
