Brea, CA Detox and Rehab Centers

Brea, California is in northern Orange County and is considered part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Between 2019 and 2021, Brea reported 30 drug and alcohol-related deaths.¹ In 2021, the Brea Police Department made 418 drug-related arrests, which was down 30% from 2020.²

However, opioid overdose deaths have been on the rise across Orange County.¹ Opioid overdoses rose sharply in 2020, with an 86.9% increase from 2019.¹ Fentanyl overdose deaths have also increased dramatically across the county, indicated by the 215.8% spike in fatalities between 2019 and 2020.¹ Fentanyl is now the most frequent type of opioid involved in opioid overdose deaths in Orange County.¹

In 2019, Orange County reported 11,107 DUI arrests, which was a slight increase from 2018.³ In November 2022, a 26-year-old Brea man was arrested for drunk driving and felony vehicular manslaughter.⁴ Police say he hit and killed a pedestrian and then tried to flee the scene.⁴

Fortunately, Brea has a wide variety of drug and alcohol rehabs available that provide treatment for all types of substance use disorders. Patients are highly encouraged to work with their physicians to determine the level(s) of addiction treatment required and then seek out a rehab that can meet those unique needs.

California has 1,734 drug and alcohol rehabs located across the state.⁵ Thirty-five of them are located within 10 miles of Brea.⁶ The treatment types include:⁶

• 17 centers offer interim care while patients wait for space at another facility.
• 15 detox facilities that help patients safely remove drugs and alcohol from their system.
• 13 residential or inpatient treatment centers where patients live and receive treatment concurrently.
• 19 rehabs with specialized care for people who have been given a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use disorders.
• 27 outpatient rehabs allow patients to live at home and attend work or school while receiving addiction treatment.

Many patients undergo several of these treatment types during their recovery journey. Often a patient will begin with detox so they can transition to a residential or outpatient rehab with a clean start.

Support groups can be integrated into all phases of addiction recovery. These groups are meant to complement rehab and should not be considered a replacement for therapy. A support group offers a structured and nurturing environment where participants can share their feelings freely and develop a sober social network.

The first addiction support group ever created was Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). AA and its counterpart—Narcotics Anonymous (NA)—offer meetings nationwide.

AA meetings in Brea are held at the following locations:⁷

• Brea Congregational Church, 300 E. Imperial Hwy., Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
• Christ Lutheran Church, 820 W. Imperial Hwy., Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.
• The Cause Church, 950 Beacon St., Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

NA meetings can be found at the United Methodist Church, 480 North State College Blvd., in Brea on Saturdays at 7 p.m.⁸

Being in a group filled with others who share the common experience of addiction can help people feel less isolated in their recovery. By having a strong, supportive network of people to turn to, patients have a better chance of remaining sober.
