Corona, CA Detox and Rehab Centers

Located in southern California, Corona is a city with 157,136 residents in Riverside County. In the county, the death rate for every 100,000 individuals is 17.5, which is considerably higher than the rest of California counties, and it continues to increase.¹ In 2018, Corona placed fourth in the top 5 cities with the highest opioid-related deaths, averaging 2.7 per 10,000 individuals.²

However, Corona isn’t alone in its drug and alcohol addiction struggles. From 2011 to 2015, there was an average of two opioid-related overdose deaths per week in Riverside County.² This places the county rates higher than Los Angeles and San Bernardino in California.² In addition, local police say the percentage of fentanyl-related overdose deaths has gone up 800% in Riverside County.³

Besides opioids, the Corona area is experiencing increased alcohol abuse, with nearly 18% of residents reporting excessive drinking.⁴ Heavy drinking is defined as consuming eight or more drinks per week for women and 15 or more drinks per week for men.⁵ This is strictly related to an increase in alcohol-impaired driving deaths, accounting for 32% of deaths reported in 2021.⁴

The ratio of mental health providers in Riverside County is around 460:1, yet about 12% of adults are uninsured.⁴ The treatment locator by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration lists 190 detox and rehab facilities within 25 miles of Corona, California.⁶ These facilities provide a variety of treatment services, including:⁷

• Detox: Provides supervised and guided withdrawal from substance use.
• Outpatient treatment: Offers rehab services while patients live on their own.
• Hospital inpatient: Provides 24/7 care and is usually connected to a hospital.
• Inpatient/Residential: Offers long-term live-in care at a supervised facility.
• Transitional housing: Serves as a temporary space while transitioning from intensive treatment settings.
• Co-occurring mental health and substance use treatment: Provides integrated and comprehensive care that addresses substance abuse and mental illness.
• Telemedicine: Offers online or phone support to complement treatment and recovery.

Nonetheless, the Riverside County Department of Mental Health (RCDMH) continually expands its treatment services and availability by ensuring their substance use programs grow in areas like Corona, CA.⁸

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) lists group counseling as one of the principles of effective treatment, citing participation in peer support programs during and following treatment can help maintain abstinence.⁹ Some of the most well-known self groups include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), which are based on the 12-Step model.¹⁰

Service Area 09 provides AA meetings to the Mid-Southern California area (MSCA), including Corona and Riverside County.¹¹ Many central offices have online directories of meetings, specifying the dates and times for each session.

Look at the Eastern Inland Empire Area for NA meetings serving Riverside and San Bernardino counties.¹² In Corona, NA meetings are held Monday through Friday, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Check with your local NA chapter for directions.¹²
