Phenomenal. Professional, personal, tailor-made individualistic programming. Very much a family atmosphere. Once you settle in, you will never want to leave. If I could live at Eden Hill, I would do it in a heartbeat. The term “staff” doesn’t adequately do justice to the Team of people who run and work at , Eden Hill in all capacities. They are personable, accommodating in anyway possible and loving. It is not possible to leave Eden Hill without feeling like your family has gained a few unofficial members. The accommodations are fabulous and newly renovated. Therapeutic communal living helped me to increase individual personal responsibility while at the same time learning to live with and compromise (perhaps for the first time) With my housemates. The clients form a bond that is therapeutic and supportive. We learn to hold each other accountable for their actions in recovery and other communal living issues in a kind and, if necessary, mediated way. Some of the tools I left with we’re effective communication, the development and use of boundaries, healthy confrontation (or “care”from ration) and how to be a part of the solution instead of the problem. Most importantly I learned humility. I learned the world does not revolve around me and that to be successful in recovery and life, I need a support network which required working on my relationship skills. My circumstances did not allow me to participate in the family recovery events; however, I witnessed my peers and their families participate with what appeared to be excellent results. The Town-of Canaan is small, safe, charming, and has a large recovery network suitable for all ages. I have known many people that have gone through Mountainside treatment center in Canaan and then followed treatment at the extended care facility of Eden Hill Recovery Retreat in Canaan that have decided to remain in the area due to the Active and varied recovery community. Additionally, many of these individuals are still clean and sober and moving on with their lives. I myself am considering relocating to the Canaan area at some point in the near future for the above stated reasons. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Eden Hill is like a second home to me which I will forever remember as a very necessary, nurturing, and healing time. I have met some of the most wonderful, loving women in situations much the same as my own that I will forever treasure as sisters and friends On a journey you couldn’t possibly understand unless you’ve been on it too.
I went through Mountainside in 2008 for 51 weeks after a couple, brief unsuccessful visits. I lost most of my speech from drinking by age 25, but now back to normal and approaching 12 years sober. I loved my time there, but also spent 2.5 years in local sober houses after treatment which was awesome. If you wanna make it work or are at rock bottom, you can get and stay sober. Addicts can be cranky, anxious, rude, and want control... If they leave early or have a bad experience with a rehab it’s usually (but not always) because they aren’t ready or aren’t desperate enough. Mountainside is MUCH nicer and bigger these days, but if you want it bad enough you can get sober anywhere. I bought a house in the area and live 2 miles away. Unfortunately, as Mountainside exploded financially and across the east coast, it’s now almost completely separated from the local community. Anyone who went there prior to maybe 2013 is basically not part of the new “wealthier” club, and therefor feel cutoff from the new Mountainsiders, which stinks because once you leave a rehab and your counselors you tend to lean on those who went through the grind and can take you to meetings and help integrate. I LOVED Mountainside so much, lived and went to meetings and events there for years... now I drive by it everyday and feel closed off, been there once in 6 years, same with my friends... I understand business is business, but what gave me hope through 51 weeks was seeing hundreds of alumni showing up to the Friday and Sunday night meetings, and starting to make relationships with those people who would drag me to meetings. I just wished the current/newer residents had that taste of real world early sobriety before they were discharged. That in my opinion, is more important than post departure out-treatment programs... but that’s my opinion,
The Westport House is and will always be remembered in my heart as the best Treatment / Recovery experience I have ever had -- My name is Craig and I am from Delray Beach , FL . From the time I was 14 years old I have always struggled with drugs and alcohol - The 1st time I went to rehab was at 19 years old (2004) -- In all the years of seeking help - I can honestly say this place provided the most well structured and client focused program.. It is rare to find a place where they actually care about people the way they do here . The staff , counselors and case managers will go the extra mile for each individual person and treat you like family -- Each client is treated as if they are the most important person in the program . The houses are spacious and clean and are presented with a warm and welcoming atmosphere -- Everything that I could possibly ask for to feel comfortable and ''at home'' are set up to feel as though you have finally found the right place -- Televisions in the bedrooms , large bathrooms and spacious bedrooms , clean and comfortable furniture and a warm and inviting aura -- Transportation is provided for 12 step meetings , daily gym memberships and employment -- The case workers are all greatly invested in each individual client so much that it feels as though they are family . If there is ever an issue - the staff and owners are always there to resolve and or meet any and all needs / requests expressed by the client . After my experience in Connecticut I can honestly say there are ''treatment centers'' and ''Rehabs'' - and then there is The Westport House - a significant difference from A-Z . I am truly , genuinely thankful for all they have done for me and would strongly suggest this as a number one pick over anywhere else . Much love to all of the staff and friends I had made along my journey with you all !! Thank you for allowing me the honor of being apart of this amazing program...
