Idyllwild, CA Detox and Rehab Centers

Idyllwild, CA is one of three unincorporated communities within the San Jacinto mountains of Riverside, California.¹ This suburb, including all three of its communities, is home to a population of 47,989 where most of its residents own their own homes despite the median income being around $52,000/year.¹

The suburban community of Idyllwild-Pine Cove is surrounded by picturesque mountains and incredibly large pine trees. While this beautiful nature scene is the ideal backdrop for a more peaceful way of life, Idyllwild and the San Jacinto mountain area are still a part of Riverside County. Although Riverside still has a lot to offer its residents and visitors alike, it has also become known as America’s infamous “drug pipeline” used to smuggle in a wide variety of illicit substances over the Mexican-American border.² This highway alone has been the primary cause of the inconceivable spike in illicit substance use involving heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines, MDMA, and more since 2011.²

The influx of illicit substances into Riverside County has directly impacted the amount of drug-related crime in each suburb and community, including Idyllwild, CA.³ Idyllwild currently ranks within the 10th percentile for safety concerning drug-related crimes, meaning that only 10% of cities within the state of California are more dangerous.³ Depending on the neighborhood an individual resides in or is visiting in Idyllwild, the chances of becoming a victim of a drug-related crime here can be as high as one in 69 people.³

Idyllwild, CA has also fallen victim to a rise in opioid overdose-related deaths, which have increased well over 10% since 2011.⁴ The primary opioid contributing to these overdose-related deaths is heroin, causing the overdose death rate to increase by a whopping 80%.⁴

County officials believe that the actual cause behind these opioid overdose-related deaths isn’t necessarily from the illicit substances on their own but is actually due to the increase in the use of the synthetic opioid fentanyl in combination with these other substances.⁵ County officials and local police have found that, over the years, fentanyl has become a popular additive for several different illicit substances including heroin, cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamines, and more. Fentanyl is incredibly potent and cheap, which allows drug traffickers and dealers to extend their supply for more money.⁵

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), fentanyl is 100 times more potent than morphine and can become fatal with just a small amount.⁶ This makes having a substance use disorder that much more dangerous than ever in the history of substance use.

As long as these illicit substances continue to be trafficked through the drug pipeline and mixed with fentanyl, overdose and overdose-related death cases will only continue to increase from here.

There are currently 35 different treatment facilities located within 25 miles of Idyllwild, CA that are available for individuals managing a substance use disorder within the unincorporated community.⁷

• 21 facilities currently offer long-term residential (inpatient) treatment programs
• 24 facilities currently offer co-occurring mental health and substance use treatment programs.

The state of California as a whole is home to only 1,611 treatment facilities in total with 571 of those facilities offering residential care.⁸

It’s important to keep in mind that while Idyllwild, CA is located within close proximity to a large number of treatment facilities, there may not be immediate availability because the amount of treatment facilities in total does not reflect the large population of the state. Fortunately, individuals with a substance use disorder can find the support they need before, during, and after treatment at one of the many Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) support group meetings in the area.
