The drug use in Jacksonville stems from and leads to additional problems for the community, as evidenced by police reports.³ According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a large cocaine trafficking operation was uncovered in January 2022, resulting in the confiscation of 30 kilos of cocaine.³

This arrest came after the sheriff’s office started an investigation into a drug operation in April 2021. ³ During the investigation and arrest, it was determined that several trafficking organizations were dealing out of Jacksonville. ³ In fact, large shipments of cocaine were coming in from Puerto Rico. ³

Also in April 2021, Operation Early Checkout, directed by the Jacksonville narcotics team, brought about the arrest of 63 suspected drug dealers.⁴
