Nesbit, MS Detox and Rehab Centers

Located in the northwestern part of Mississippi in DeSoto County, the city of Nesbit experiences problems with drug overdose and addiction like many other parts of the Magnolia State.

Opioid addiction and opioid-related overdoses are serious public health concerns in DeSoto County. During the second quarter of 2021, DeSoto was 1 of 3 counties that accounted for nearly 52% of all suspected drug overdose deaths in Mississippi.¹ It was also 1 of 3 counties that accounted for 28.7% of all drug-related arrests in Mississippi during that same period.¹

In 2020, DeSoto County led the state in the number of drug overdose cases.² According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, there were 40 drug overdose deaths in the county in 2020 and at least 50 deaths in 2021, with additional deaths pending.²

Alcohol misuse also affects residents in DeSoto County where, in 2015, the rate of excessive drinking among local adults was 12%, and the percentage of traffic deaths related to alcohol impairment was 10.3%.³ In 2019, these percentages increased significantly to 15% and 17%, respectively.⁴

Drug and alcohol support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are shown effective at helping people achieve long-term abstinence from drugs and alcohol.⁷ They can also help these individuals learn healthy coping methods and improve their mental well-being while receiving other addiction treatments.⁷ AA and NA meetings are free to attend and widely available near Nesbit.⁷

There are no AA meetings that take place in Nesbit.⁸ However, there are dozens of AA groups that meet in Southaven 7 days a week.⁸ Most of the AA meetings in Southaven take place at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on 8089 US-51.⁸ Nesbit residents who want to attend a nearby AA meeting can access a schedule of local meetings on the official website for the Area 37 Mississippi Assembly of Alcoholics Anonymous.⁸
