Pahrump, NV Detox and Rehab Centers

Drug and alcohol use disorders are prevalent in Pahrump, just as they are in many other Nevada cities.

Pahrump is located about 62 miles west of Las Vegas at the southernmost tip of Nye County, right along the California border. Alcohol, marijuana, and opioids are among the top substances misused in Nye County, according to data collected by the Nye Communities Coalition.¹

In 2018, nearly 11% of adults in Nye County identified as heavy drinkers, while 13.6% reported using marijuana within the past 30 days.¹ That same year, marijuana was responsible for the majority of treatment admissions to inpatient rehab centers in Nye County (462.6 per 100,000 residents), followed by methamphetamine (297.3 per 100,000 residents) and opioids (155 per 100,000 residents).¹

Opioid misuse is especially problematic in Nye County, where there were 33.2 opioid-related deaths per 100,000 residents in 2016.² That same year, opioid prescribers wrote more than 1,555 prescriptions for every 1,000 local residents.²

In 2021, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and DEA warned local residents about an increase in the circulation of counterfeit painkillers laced with synthetic fentanyl, which has been driving opioid-related overdose deaths in the county.³ Synthetic fentanyl is up to 100 times stronger than morphine and can instantly trigger an overdose in anyone who uses it.⁴

Fortunately, there are many addiction treatment centers in and near Pahrump that can help people who are suffering from drug and alcohol use disorders.

There are two addiction treatment facilities in Pahrump that offer substance abuse and mental health treatment services.⁵ However, those who are willing to travel a bit farther to Las Vegas have access to an additional 74 treatment facilities.⁵ Of those facilities, five offer inpatient and residential rehab programs, which may be appealing to those who want to avoid traveling to and from Pahrump for daily or weekly treatment.⁵

In Pahrump, there are three doctors who are licensed to prescribe buprenorphine, which is an opioid maintenance medication that helps reduce cravings in those dependent on opioids.⁵ Those who are willing to receive buprenorphine treatment in Las Vegas have access to an additional 232 buprenorphine practitioners.⁵

Pahrump does not have any dedicated opioid treatment programs (OTPs) that offer opioid detox or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services for those in recovery from opioid addiction.⁶ However, there are six OTPs in Las Vegas and two OTPs in North Las Vegas for those who want access to MAT with methadone, buprenorphine, and/or naltrexone, which are maintenance medications for those who need help staying sober long-term.⁶

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are evidence-based 12-step support groups that can complement any addiction treatment program.⁷ AA and NA are available in nearly every city, are free to attend, and offer ongoing support and encouragement to people in recovery from alcohol and drug misuse.⁷

Pahrump is home to dozens of AA and NA meetings that are held both in-person and virtually. Pahrump residents interested in attending these support groups can access meeting schedules at the Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Pahrump NV District 17 and Narcotics Anonymous websites.^{8, 9}
