Plant City, FL Detox and Rehab Centers

Plant City is a fair-sized city located in Hillsborough County, just 25 miles east of Tampa. Drug and alcohol addiction are some of the most harmful behaviors impacting Plant City and the rest of the county.¹

To tackle substance use and mental health issues in Hillsborough County, county officials joined forces with the neighboring counties of Pasco, Pinellas, and Polk to develop the All4HealthFL.¹ The goal of the united effort is to improve mental health and reduce substance abuse in adults and youth in the four counties.¹

The use of opioids in Plant City and Hillsborough County has increased within the past couple of years.² According to the Florida Department of Health, about 700 of the 2,064 reported non-fatal drug overdoses in 2020 were due to opioids.² There were 409 Hillsborough County residents who died of opioid overdose in 2020, almost double the number of opioid overdoses the year before.²

Binge drinking is also a growing problem in Plant City.³ The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines binge drinking as having more than 4 alcoholic drinks for men and 5 drinks for women within 2 hours.⁴ Data from All4HealthFL shows that 18% of Plant City residents admitted to binge drinking in 2019, which is slightly higher than the rest of Hillsborough County.³

The number of Plant City and Hillsborough County residents who use marijuana is above the state average. In 2016, 10% of adults from the community admitted to using marijuana or hashish, compared to 7% in the rest of Florida.⁵
