Plantation, FL Detox and Rehab Centers

Originally part of South Florida’s wetlands, the city of Plantation got its name from the Everglades Plantation Company, which was based there in the early 1900s.¹ The city’s about 7 miles west of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County.²

Fentanyl is a growing problem in Plantation and Broward County.⁶ The synthetic opioid is significantly more potent than other types, like morphine and heroin.⁷ In 2020, 642 Broward County residents died from a fentanyl overdose, making it one of the counties with the highest number of fentanyl-related deaths in the state.⁶

The number of Florida residents who have died from a fentanyl overdose increased significantly between 2018 and 2020.⁶ There were 2,348 fentanyl-related overdose deaths in 2018, 3,244 in 2019, and 5,302 in 2020.⁶

Overdose deaths due to other drugs were also high in Broward County.⁶ That same year, 427 people died from a cocaine overdose, and 118 died of a heroin overdose in the county.⁶

Meanwhile, binge drinking in Broward County is below the state average.⁸ The Centers for Disease Control defines binge drinking as having 5 or more drinks for men and 4 or more drinks for women during one occasion.⁹ In 2019, 16.7% of Broward County adults admitted to heavy or binge drinking.⁸ That figure is down from 19% in 2016.⁸
