Rancho Mirage, CA Detox and Rehab Centers

Rancho Mirage, CA, is located in the center of the Coachella Valley in Riverside County.¹ In 2020, Rancho Mirage had the fourth-highest rate in the county for all drug-related overdose deaths.²

In 2019, more than 70,000 people died from a drug overdose in the U.S.³ The biggest culprit is opioids, specifically synthetic opioids such as fentanyl.³ More than 70% of opioid-involved overdose deaths involved synthetic opioids.³ From 2018 to 2019, the largest increase in death rates involving synthetic opioids happened in the West.³

Fentanyl is approved for treating severe pain and is up to 100 times stronger than morphine.⁴ Illegally made fentanyl is often mixed with heroin or other drugs or made to look like counterfeit prescription pills.⁴ This illicit fentanyl is 1 of the primary drivers of the ongoing opioid crisis.⁵ Seventeen of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 23 field divisions indicated that the availability of fentanyl was high in 2019.⁵

The Rancho Mirage Sheriff’s Station is no stranger to fentanyl. In February 2021, law enforcement arrested a man in possession of cocaine and fentanyl pills.⁶ A search of his residence turned up additional cocaine, fentanyl pills, Xanax, weapons, and drug paraphernalia for packing drugs for sale.⁶

People who live in and around Rancho Mirage have access to 35 treatment facilities.⁷ Comparatively, California is home to more than 1,500 rehab centers.⁸ The treatment options near Rancho Mirage vary and include⁷:

• 21 centers treatment focused on those who have a co-occurring mental health diagnosis and substance use disorder.
• 16 outpatient facilities that allow patients to come and go from their homes.

Treatment can also include what is called an intensive outpatient program (IOP). These programs may be incorporated as a step down from an inpatient or residential setting or a step up from individual outpatient treatment.⁹ An IOP allows people to stay in treatment while maintaining their day-to-day lives and responsibilities.⁹

Patients engaged in this treatment protocol may utilize services local to Rancho Mirage.⁹ Once treatment has been completed, these support services remain in place, which may be able to help the patient transition into the next phase of recovery.⁹

Support groups offer those in recovery a place to turn to for help and advice without judgment. They also help people establish a sober social network free from potential bad influences that could be detrimental to their progress.

Drug and alcohol support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are available in Rancho Mirage. The AA Central Intergroup Office of the Desert holds meetings Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at the Victory Christian Center at 34500 Bob Hope Dr.¹⁰

NA meetings are offered close to Rancho Mirage in nearby Palm Desert at Christ of the Desert at 73-441 Fred Waring Dr. and the Portola Community Center at 45480 Portola Ave.¹¹

Aftercare such as support groups is an important part of the recovery process. Studies show patients who establish a new social network built around abstinence often find it easier to maintain their sobriety.¹²
