Treatment Philosophy
At River Oaks, we have several different types of outpatient programs designed to meet the individual needs of each patient. Outpatient drug and alcohol rehab programs may be ideal for people who don’t have serious co-occurring disorders that would necessitate 24-hour supervision and for those who either don’t need medical detox or have completed it already.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction in St. Petersburg

Located in Pinellas County, St. Petersburg is the 5th largest city in Florida.1 Located in the heart of the state, it is home to a quarter of a million residents.1 This area has seen significant population growth since the 2010 census, increasing from 18.8 million to 21.5 million.2 With growth, there is a risk of additional problems with drugs coming into the community, just as there would be with any larger city. The risk of substance abuse among residents may be a concern for community members.

In 2021 St. Petersburg police made a significant drug bust, uncovering over 100 pounds of various narcotics and arresting close to two dozen people who were identified as drug distributors.3

Because of the harmful impact substance use and addiction has on the streets of St. Petersburg and the surrounding areas, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is taking steps to be more proactive.4 They are coordinating with a community program, Pinellas Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education (NOPE) to provide outreach to schools.4 Their hope is to prevent young people from starting on the road to addiction.4

St. Petersburg Detox and Rehab Availability

You can find plenty of rehab facilities in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. Specifically, there are 65 substance abuse facilities within 25 miles of St. Petersburg.5 This includes the following breakdown:5

St. Petersburg Drug and Alcohol Support Groups

St. Petersburg also offers support groups to aid in the recovery of a substance use disorder. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are two such groups that provide a place for people dealing with addictions. This fellowship of individuals consists of people from all walks of life who come together to support one another in the mission of solving their addiction problems.6

AA and NA use the 12-Step program as guidance to overcome the vice of addiction.6 This method is rooted in the history and traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous and has been a source of many inspirational stories.6 You can reach out to the local AA and NA chapters in St. Petersburg and find a supportive complement to your rehab journey.
