San Clemente, CA Detox and Rehab Centers

San Clemente is located in Southern California’s Orange County. The city is situated about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. A popular tourist destination, many people come to San Clemente for the beaches and architecture.

Unfortunately, San Clemente is also no stranger to major drug busts. In 2019, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a woman in San Clemente after a search of her car revealed 140 pounds of illegal drugs.¹ Agents said they confiscated 34 packages of cocaine, 19 packages of fentanyl, and 4 packages of heroin.¹ The drugs had a street value of $2.25 million.¹

In 2020, a man was arrested near San Clemente while attempting to smuggle about half-a-million dollars worth of cocaine.² A year later, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man driving erratically near San Clemente and discovered he was transporting 41 pounds of methamphetamine in his car.³

San Clemente, like the rest of the U.S., has seen and experienced the unfortunate effects of drug addiction. Between 2017 and 2021, the city reported 113 deaths due to drugs or alcohol.⁴ Almost 65% percent of those deaths were drug-related.⁴

Alcohol misuse has also led to tragedy in San Clemente. In 2020, a San Clemente woman was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison for causing a car crash that killed 3 people.⁵ The woman’s blood alcohol level was 4 times the legal limit.⁵

Addiction support groups can serve many purposes in addiction recovery. Not only do they give members a safe place to share experiences and struggles, but they can also provide positive momentum to stay sober.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are 12-Step programs. In a 12-Step program, it’s recommended that people who share the same type of substance use disorder attend meetings together. Attendees are also encouraged to find a sponsor, or someone who is further along in their recovery, to help be a positive influence outside of meetings.

The San Clemente Friendship Center, 929 Calle Negocio, holds AA meetings 7 days a week at various times during the day.⁸ NA meetings are also held at the Friendship Center Fridays at 8 p.m.⁹
