Ascend Healthcare for Adolescents

Caring staff, beautiful surroundings, deeply caring about the teen, wide variety of therapies. From the first moment we made a phone call, Ascend staff held our hand, walked through the process, and ultimately deeply cared not only about our child well being but also about the family. We were very impressed with quality care that we got.

Quest 2 Recovery

They are very informative and answered every question I had, both being at the facility and to do with my aftercare. They’re some of the most personable, gracious people I’ve ever met. They gave me the tools to use moving forward and I met lots of genuine people and had conversations with those people who wanted to listen and were readily willing to help and offer insight and wisdom that will stay with me forever. That particular staff and the month I stayed with them saved my life and for that, I am eternally grateful. People like Krystle, Alex, Stephanie, Diana, Derrick, David, Chelsea, Yvette, Crystal, Alexis, Lupe, Cherise, Tammy and the owners, Arman and Guspar make life seem possible even when you feel like giving up. Thank you to everyone at Quest 2 Recovery ❤️ I will never forget this experience.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Thermal, CA

Located 25 miles southeast of Palm Springs, Thermal, CA, is a desert community in Riverside County. Despite the natural beauty of Southern California, Thermal had the fourth-highest percentage of adults in the county who stated that their mental health was poor for 14 or more days in the past month in 2019.1

Research has shown that mental health plays a role in substance use disorders. In 2019, out of the 61.2 million adults diagnosed with a mental disorder, more than half of them also had a substance use disorder.2 Mental disorders most likely to be present with a substance use disorder include depression, bipolar, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and ADHD.2

People who are seeking treatment for both a substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental disorder often benefit from treatment that addresses both issues at the same time. Adults who are dealing with this dual diagnosis are at an increased risk for poor health, social issues, criminal activity, and homelessness.3

Anxiety disorders are one of the most common co-occurring disorders associated with drug addiction.3 One study showed that 30% of people who met the criteria for lifetime drug use also had at least 1 anxiety disorder.3

Mood disorders such as major depressive and bipolar disorders are also associated with substance use disorder co-occurrence.3 People who have been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder are twice as likely to have substance use issues.3 The risk increases up to 7 times among those diagnosed with bipolar disorder.3

There are treatment facilities in and around Thermal that have programs targeted specifically to those who have co-occurring disorders. Often, these services and programs offer a variety of different care strategies ranging from counseling to individual, group, family, and peer support, motivational techniques, and medication-assisted therapy.2

Thermal, CA Detox and Rehab Availability

There are 11 treatment facilities located within 10 miles of Thermal.4 That’s compared to the more than 1,500 centers located throughout California.5 While Thermal is located in a rural part of the state, it does have facilities available that offer the following treatment options:4

  • 2 centers that offer detoxification while under supervision
  • 6 outpatient facilities, which is a less intense form of treatment where the patient still lives on their own
  • 3 hospital inpatient facilities for nonstop, hospital-based care
  • 6 residential centers that provide more intense, inpatient treatment
  • 4 facilities that offer co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder treatment
  • 3 centers that offer transitional housing and sober living

Recovery or transitional housing is one example of a residential treatment setting. Transitional housing near Thermal offers patients supervised short-term living arrangements following another type of inpatient treatment.6 This step in the recovery process helps patients begin to transition to living on their own, free from substance use.6 It can include financial and job counseling along with help connecting to needed social services in and around Thermal.6

Thermal, CA Drug and Alcohol Support Groups

Drug and alcohol support groups in Thermal, such as Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), play an important role in the recovery process. The local chapters of AA and NA in the Thermal, CA community are there to help people maintain their sobriety.

Since these groups are widely available, they can provide the necessary, ongoing support many people need for long-term success. Unlike a treatment program that has a clear end, a support group is there whenever someone needs one.

Support is at the crux of 12-Step programs such as AA or NA. Since these programs often keep people engaged over many years, they can help reduce the chances of relapse.7 They also provide accountability, with the expectation that people report to a sponsor.7

Researchers found there was a 20% higher abstinence rate after 12 months among people who attended AA or a program that encourages AA attendance.8 That rate continued at the 2 and 3-year mark as well.8
