At River Oaks, we have several different types of outpatient programs designed to meet the individual needs of each patient. Outpatient drug and alcohol rehab programs may be ideal for people who don’t have serious co-occurring disorders that would necessitate 24-hour supervision and for those who either don’t need medical detox or have completed it already.

This place has seriously become family to me. I never thought I could become what I am today until I met everyone that worked here. The facility is absolutely amazing. Very very clean .... always very very clean.... the food is phenomenal thanks to the wonderful cooks. My life was seriously headed straight for death but this team worked a miracle and saved me. The entire staff is great and the way they all truly care as opposed to them just doing the job is extraordinary. I was able to fully hand myself over and trust where I was to help me.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Valrico, FL

Located just a half-hour east of Tampa, Valrico, Florida is a suburb in Hillsborough with a population of 37,895.1 This area, with an average annual temperature of about 73 degrees and its location near the west coast of the state, offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation.2 However,  drug and alcohol use in the area has grown increasingly concerning. A study from the years 2005–2010 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan statistical area yielded the following results:3

  • An annual average of 326,000 persons aged 12 or older used an illicit drug in the past year. This number represents 13.9% of the population. In comparison, an annual average of 14.3% of Floridians used an illicit drug during the same period.
  • A total of 188,000 persons aged 12 or older, or 8.0%, had a substance use disorder (SUD) in the past year. In comparison, 8.9% of Floridians had a SUD.
  • 2% of Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area residents participated in binge drinking, compared to 22.2% of residents across Florida.

When drug or alcohol addiction is an issue, it can lead to increased crime in the surrounding community. According to deputies in Hillsborough County, $1 million worth of marijuana was seized from a home in Valrico in 2019.4 Another home in Valrico was busted for what detectives say was a “makeshift laboratory,” in which they found hundreds of pounds of synthetic marijuana.5

Floridians enrolled in a substance use program are primarily there for drug use.6 However, 13.3% participate in the program for an alcohol-only reason, while 35.6% participate for drug and alcohol problems.6

If you are among those dealing with a substance or alcohol use disorder, you may find it helpful to seek treatment at an inpatient treatment facility or medical detox center. With the many rehabs in the Tampa-Valrico area, you are sure to find one with amenities and programs that suit your needs.

Valrico, FL, Drug and Alcohol Support Groups

It’s often helpful to pair a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program with a complementary support group program, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).9 These groups offer people fellowship with other like-minded individuals and provide support through group discussions, testimonials, and adherence to the 12-Step model.9

You can meet in an informal setting and come as you are.9 Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are open to all people. No matter what your background, religion, or beliefs, you are welcome to join the group.9 Their main mission is to lead addicted people to a place of hope.9

You can find an AA or NA near you by contacting a local chapter in your town.
