The experience with KITSAP RECOVERY CENTER 661 Taylor Street, Port Orchard 360-337-4625. Did not turn out great. Sad to say.

First, can seem military like in treatment type/policies. But, I did fine, I did what I was told. Make sure all your medications are in order, could take forever to get them. Food was good & bad. You'll see, Western omelette is a joke, a tablespoon of spam & bell pepper inside powder eggs. Womens' room is FREEZING cold. Bring extra blankets from home. Bring smokes if you smoke. Bring shower shoes for sure! Shower lighting is too dark. No where to hang clothes. None of the games have the pieces, so don't even bother opening them up.

Dual tx is effective inthat it is monitored by professional, both medicl. good program, support and commited staff. community agency tends to be questioned by private programs.

I have stayed clean and sober because of the work I have put into my recovery through the twelve steps. 3 years now continuously battling this monster. KRC gave me a clean and safe place to be, away from the temptations of drinking and using. It was pretty much a 30 day detox. There's a mix of counselors that understand recovery because they are recovering as well. However at least mine spent the majority of group sessions talking about his personal life almost as it was his two hours to brag. The same counselor during his lectures focused more on a comedy routine ( failed comedy routine) than actually showing us tools to apply to our lives. Then there were the counselors that read about addiction and alcoholism in books and tv shows , they have no idea what the hell an addict alcoholic goes through day in and day out. Those counselors have a mentality that they are power and love to flex their muscles. As another commenter ( the trainee ) said they almost get a thrill at humiliating some of the patients. I wasn't on that end of their power trips but certainly witnessed it. Sadly many of those didn't stay in recovery too long after completion. On the other hand 9 out of 10 of the aides that work in the detox area are awesome. The building is old and run down with mysterious smells. They truck in meals made at the county jail. Yes I know it's not supposed to be a resort setting but jail food ? Cmon If this is your only choice then by all means go. Just remember there are groups of people out there that have been in your shoes and have the same disease as you and it doesn't cost a dime. It's also all you can drink coffee .
