Phoenix House Academy on Wallum Lake offers a full spectrum of residential substance abuse treatment services for boys ages 13 to 18. The program helps its clients identify the root of their substance abuse issues, and aims to replace negative behaviors and ways of thinking with ones that are positive and productive. Treatment plans are individualized and family-oriented, and the secluded country setting provides a structured environment in which young residents can work to develop new values and attitudes.

Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.Holistic Therapy
Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

Meet the Staff
Marie MooreProgram DirectorMarie is now a Licensed Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor and is certified to treat both chemical dependencies and co-occurring disorders. She has been working with Phoenix House New England since 1995, starting as a counselor and eventually becoming program director. She now oversees men and women’s residential treatment in Exeter and Providence, Rhode Island. Her job allows her to balance administrative tasks with clinical care so she’s still able to facilitate group therapy and talk with clients. Her care for clients has made her a four-time recipient of the Phoenix House Excellence Award.- Fred Trapassi, JrVice President of Rhode Island ProgrammingIn his work with Travelers Aid Society (now Crossroads Rhode Island), Fred saw the poverty caused by drug abuse. Seeking to continue his work in the human services field, Fred joined Phoenix House in 2000 as director of Phoenix House Academy in Pascoag, Rhode Island, and as senior program director for adolescent services in the New England region. During his time at Phoenix House, Fred has also served as privacy officer and as vice president and senior program director of Rhode Island programming. As senior program director, he oversees programs along the continuum of care, from detoxification to residential to a shelter program to recovery housing and aftercare.
