Sozo Recovery Center, Inc.
243 Nathan Terrace, Jessieville, Arkansas, 71910
Residents often refer to Sozo Recovery Center as a “spiritual retreat” rather than a rehab for drug and alcohol addiction. That’s because the facility offers a unique and highly effective Christian recovery experience, one that’s coupled with the 12-step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and offers compassionate, individualized care. After treatment, clients leave with a solid foundation for long-term sobriety, as well as a positive attitude toward themselves, those around them, and life in general.

12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

Meet the Staff
- Bob O'DowdExecutive DirectorAfter retiring from the position of executive vice president, sales & marketing, at a New York city based fortune 500 company, Bob moved to Arkansas in 2001. A key fact of Bob’s life is that he has been in recovery for 33 years and, in 2004, he was asked to join the board of directors of Quapaw House, Inc.,, a drug and alcohol treatment center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The following year he was named executive director of that organization and remained in that position until 2009. It was there that Bob envisioned a “treatment center like no other” that would soon be called a “faith-based spiritual retreat”. As executive director of Sozo Recovery Centers, inc., Bob proudly acknowledges that the capacity is limited to 15 men who all receive maximum personal attention and care. “these men can stay here for up to 1-2 years as they slowly and safely re-enter the community” O’Dowd says.
- Justin SmithAssistant Director"My name is Justin Smith, I am a grateful recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I owe my recovery and second chance at life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and SOZO Recovery Centers in Jessieville, Arkansas. I am so very blessed to now be the assistant director here at SOZO, and to be a part of other people's recovery. I truly believe that with the combination of faith based and AA's twelve step recovery here at SOZO, we are offering a treatment plan that allows our men a solid foundation for a new life. This combination is what changed my life in ways I could never imagine. This program has given me a purpose today, and that purpose is to provide men with the same opportunity that I have had in my recovery. I believe in what we are doing here at SOZO, and am very passionate about my work."
